1. #14832 A collection of reviews of recent books in editing (particularly for journalism). 2. #10495 The American Copy Editors Society, a professional organization of copy editors, is dedicated to improving the quality of journalism and the working lives of journalists. Our main purpose is to educate our members--and others in the news business--in ways of improving the standards of copy editing and increasing the value the news industry places on our craft. While our primary focus is on newspaper copy editing, we welcome editors from other publications, as well as academic representatives and students. 3. #14833 To encourage the development of young editors, we have produced this booklet to serve as a guide to the expectations of news publications around the country. These guidelines are based on materials culled from newspaper tests and the stated expectations of those newspapers. We hope students, professors and others interested in the training of copy editors will use this booklet to learn what newspapers seek when hiring copy editors. ACES (2000). The study was administered by copy editor Carrie Camillo of the Star Tribune in Minneapolis. With the support of her paper and its editor, Tim McGuire, she produced a 33-page report that is the most comprehensive work available on the subject. This column is taken from Camillo’s report.
