In this article, I’ll discuss how to create a strong password, and how to keep track of all your strong passwords, if you have a definite need to keep more than a couple. Don't bother creating and remembering strong passwords for low value systems, and certainly don’t use the same passwords for low value systems that you use in high value systems.

HAT-Matrix.com is a new representation of an old standard--the Help Authoring Tool (HAT) Comparison Matrix that was available from helpstuff.com for five years (2001-2006). But instead of a static list, this site uses a searchable database. And instead of someone choosing the tools that are included, vendors choose whether to include their tools.

The idea behind Open Source is simple: everyone should have the freedom to copy, distribute, and change source code. The implications, however, overturn the conventional high-tech business model. When software is no longer intellectual property, everything changes. Development is quicker because more people are involved. Bugs are caught more quickly. Instead of being passive consumers, customers can become partners in development. Instead of selling software, companies sell hardware, services, or added value. Internally, companies become more interactive and more loosely structured. If Open Source continues to gather speed, high-tech workers will discover that it is not just a development model, but also a new model for corporate life. For writers, the approach of Open Source could be especially important. How documentation is viewed and used, how writers interact with developers, and what tools are used--all of these and more could be affected by the Open Source movement.

How Do People Really Use Text Editors?
Keystroke statistics were collected on editing systems while people performed their normal work. Knowledge workers used an experimental editor, and secretaries used a word processor. Results show a consistent picture of free use patterns in both settings. Of the total number of keystrokes, text entry accounted for approximately 1/2, cursor movement for about 1/4, deletion for about 1/8, and all other functions for the remaining 1/8. Analysis of keystroke transitions and editing states is also presented. Implications for past research, editor design, keyboard layout, and benchmark tests are discussed.

How Microsoft Lost the API War
Microsoft's crown strategic jewel, the Windows API, is lost. The cornerstone of Microsoft's monopoly power and incredibly profitable Windows and Office franchises, which account for virtually all of Microsoft's income and covers up a huge array of unprofitable or marginally profitable product lines, the Windows API is no longer of much interest to developers. The goose that lays the golden eggs is not quite dead, but it does have a terminal disease, one that nobody noticed yet.

How to Blur the Background Around an Object
Working in your new layer, and on the item you wish to keep in focus, find a starting point, click the mouse once and begin slowing tracing around the object. Once it has been entirely traced, return to your starting point and double-click to select your object. Under the SELECT menu choose INVERSE. Then under the FILTER menu choose BLUR » GAUSSIAN BLUR. When the Gaussian Blur window appears, use the radius slider bar to choose the amount of pixels to blur. I chose 4.5 for my example. When you are satisfied with the preview, click OK.

How to Choose a Good Instructional Book about OpenOffice.org
If the success of an open source project can be measured by the number of third-party books about it, then OpenOffice.org is thriving. This article gives an overview of four of the current OpenOffice.org books, ending with a suggestion of which to buy for your own needs.
