The Association of Teachers of Technical Writing 
The Association of Teachers of Technical Writing was formed in 1973 to encourage dialogue among teachers of technical communication and to develop technical communication as an academic discipline. ATTW today has approximately 1,000 members and includes both graduate and undergraduate students of technical communication as well as professional technical communicators in business and industry.

Föreningen Teknisk Information (FTI) är en förening för professionella informatörer med teknik och naturvetenskap som arbetsfält. Föreningen fungerar som ett kontaktnät informatörerna emellan och är ett forum för utbyte av erfarenheter. FTI arrangerar bl a studiebesök, höst- och vårmöte med seminarier och föredrag. The latest on the STC Transformation blog mentions that of the thousands of STC members, only 1% are contributing their views to the blog. So, they wonder, what do the other 99% have to say? One commentor thinks that this 99% are silent because they're happy with their memberships. I think this group has probably just forgotten they're members.

Institute of Scientific and Technical Communicators
A UK organization (member of Intecom) that allows members to exchange views and information with other technical communicators. Offers book reviews on various subjects (e.g. editing, writing, indexing, web design, user interface design, and programming and mark-up languages). It also offers information on training and education for technical communicators.
INTECOM stands for international co-operation between technical communication organizations, and aims to improve technical documentation and communication. INTECOM represents approximately 30.000 technical communicators in fifteen member organizations.
STC must change, and the Board has ideas on what STC should look like. But is it fair to simply foist our ideas on members? Why would we do that?

Special Interest Group on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques
The ACM Special Interest Group on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques is an interdisciplinary community interested in research, technology, and applications in computer graphics and interactive techniques. Members include researchers, developers and users from the technical, academic, business, and art communities. SIGGRAPH provides information to the computer graphics community through its annual conference, publications and the SIGGRAPH Video Review. SIGGRAPH members receive the quarterly newsletter Computer Graphics, the SIGGRAPH annual conference publications which consist of the proceedings (printed, CD-ROM and videotape), electronic art and animation catalog (printed and CD-ROM) and the conference abstracts and applications (printed and CD-ROM). A 'Lite' membership is available at a reduced rate that includes the quarterly newsletter but not the conference publications package. A 'Plus' option is also available with significant discounts on the proceedings of other computer graphics conferences and workshops. STC Consulting and Independent Contracting Special Interest Group
The Consulting and Independent Contracting SIG serves as a focal point for information about practicing technical communication as an independent contractor or consultant. It helps both new and seasoned independents practice their trade more effectively. The CIC SIG operates within STC at the international level, and supports local chapter CIC SIGs.
