Texture and Type Treatments

Photoshop is useful at generating interesting textures and patterns, and version 7 even has a nifty Pattern Maker filter to help you craft patterns that tile seamlessly. To create a more custom look, I like to create patterns and texture using different combinations of the built-in filters along with Blend Modes and Adjustment Layers. It's fun to spend time experimenting in the Photoshop laboratory to see what you can come up with.

Threaded Text in InDesign CS

If you use Microsoft Word, you are used to the fact that if when your text will get to the end of a page, another page will be automatically added. With InDesign and most layout programs, this is a little bit different. This is because layout programs work with text boxes (or tex frames) which allow you more freedom when you lay out your document.

To Dream, Weave, or Read The Front Page?

What You See Is What You Get Editors (referred to as WYSIWYG editors from here after) are programs that have been written specifically to aid in the development of Websites and their components, I say components as in this day and age database management and script setup have major parts to play within the editors. In the next ten minutes you will realise that WYSIWYG editors are not the way to go.

Usability in Software Development

Usability does not begin and end with the web. In fact, long before the Internet was a gleam in the Pentagon's eye, computer professionals were already aware of the need for human-computer interaction to be as natural and intuitive as possible. In fact, there are many compelling reasons to suggest that usability is even more critical to successful application design than it is for winning websites.
