		<description>To assist students who are pursuing established degree programs in some area of technical communication. Applicants must have completed at least one year of post-secondary education. Applicants must be full-time students. They may be either graduate students working toward a Master&apos;s or Doctor&apos;s degree, or undergraduate students working toward a Bachelor&apos;s degree. Students should have at least one full year of academic work remaining to complete their degree programs, although under exceptional circumstances an award may be granted to a student for the final half-year. They should be studying communication of information about technical subjects. Other majors, such as general journalism, electronic communication engineering, computer programming, creative writing, or entertainment, are not eligible.</description>

Scholarships are obviously great for students, but they’re also great for the people who give them out. You get wonderful PR, a lifeline of new blood, and that inner glow that comes from doing&#xD;good.</description>

		<title>Shirley G. Carter Memorial Scholarship</title>

		<description>Shirley G. Carter, a member of the Washington, DC Chapter, was the first African-American female elected to the Society Board of Directors. She was an STC member since 1976. After serving as Region 3 Director-Sponsor from 1979 to 1982, Ms. Carter was an Assistant to the President for Member Programs until 1984. Ms. Carter was instrumental in the Metro Baltimore Chapter&apos;s formation, which was chartered during her term. Ms. Carter was responsible for the publication of one of the STC anthology series, Word Processing and Automated Publications Systems. Ms. Carter worked for the General Services Administration as a management analyst in the Office of Information Resources Management. She was a part-time instructor at the Graduate School of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. She continued to be active in STC until her death. Shirley G. Carter died on July 16, 1986.&#xD;&#xD;When possible, the chapter awards scholarships of $1,500 to an undergraduate student and $1,500 to a graduate student. The scholarships are intended to further the education of individuals who may, upon graduation, make contributions to the technical communication profession in Maryland, DC, or Virginia.</description>

		<title>ACM SIGDOC Undergraduate Scholarship</title>

		<description>One non-renewable scholarship of $500 will be granted toward school tuition and expenses for the 2003-2004 academic year. The award will be paid directly to the school for crediting to the student&apos;s account.&#xD;&#xD;To assist a student who is pursuing an established degree program in an area of technical or professional communication.&#xD;&#xD;A committee set by the SIGDOC board will evaluate each application with respect to potential future contribution to the field of technical communication. Financial need is not a factor.</description>

		<title>Southwestern Ontario Chapter STC Scholarship</title>

		<description>The Southwestern Ontario Chapter&apos;s Society for Technical Communication (STC) scholarship is open &#xD;to third and fourth year University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University students, who are &#xD;enrolled in any Faculty. To qualify, students must have a minimum average of 75% (B+) on their &#xD;latest transcript. Previous STC Scholarship winners are excluded from applying. &#xD; &#xD;First prize is the $1000 Heidi Thiessen Memorial Scholarship; second prize is $500. Both students &#xD;will also receive an STC student membership ($45 US). The prizes will be awarded at our March 5, &#xD;2002 STC general meeting.</description>

		<title>STC Lone Star Community Scholarships</title>

		<description>The STC Lone Star Community&apos;s Scholarship Committee is accepting scholarship applications for the Spring 2006 through Sumer 2006 academic year. &#xD;&#xD;The Scholarship Committee evaluates applicants&apos; academic records and potential for contributing to the technical communication profession. However, when applicants are judged to be comparable in these respects, the committee also considers a student&apos;s financial need.&#xD;&#xD;We must receive applications for the Spring scholarship no later than March 15, 2006.&#xD;&#xD;Judging will take place in April. Winners will be notified by phone or mail. The scholarship recipients will be formally recognized at a Lone Star Community meeting.</description>
