Since the 1960s, Brazil has developed very close
ties between academia and professionals in the marketplace. The efforts of
scholars and the enthusiastic support of professionals have contributed to
this development and advanced both practice and the scholarly agenda of the
field. This essay examines this partnership as it formed through the growth
of undergraduate education, the development of graduate programs, the establishment
of the bridge between academia and the business world, and the integration
of the academy and the market.
