Microsoft is one of the largest software companies in the world. Thus, with their rich experience in documentation it is only natural that they share it with the rest of the IT industry. The Microsoft Manual of Style for Technical Publications, Third Edition (MSTP) is the latest step in this direction and takes care of latest technologies and technical terms.

K Furtado MSTP should be better
MSTP is the best collection of style guidelines for technical communication, but out-of-date and incomplete. Until Microsoft decides to invest more resouces in this, it will likely remain so. Too bad; it could be so useful to so many people.
Fox Cole I agree it's lacking
The third edition of MSTP was published in 2004, five years ago as of this writing. Much has happened in the world since then -- but even so, editors and writers still look to the MSTP as an industry standard. Needs to be better supported! Microsoft appears to be following the shameful path of letting documentation and standards fall by the wayside in favor of more immediately lucrative projects... forgetting how their business and support teams can be helped by written communications that follow solid, consistent and proven standards.
