The graphical browser and the emergence of corporate entities brought the Web to the forefront of the Internet and brought the Web to the masses. But popularity, along with proprietary and corporate influence changed the goals and focus of online life. In many ways this change in goals resulted in the Internet failing to fulfill much of its initial promise.
